Deep Tissue Massage at Yogaspace Yorkshire

Most people will love the benefits of this treatment. Deep tissue massage therapy can be used to treat chronic aches and pains and contracted areas such as a stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.

The treatment involves applying firm pressure and slow strokes to the body, the strokes used in deep tissue massage are the same as in classic (Swedish) massage, however the pace is slower with a stronger pressure applied. As well as their hands our practitioners will use their forearms, elbows, fingertips and knuckles to massage tissue.

Our practitioners can usually focus in on a specific problem, or an area with chronic pain or help with injury rehabilitation. Many conditions can be effectively treated including repetitive strain, postural and sciatica problems, sports injuries, and muscle spasms.

Deep tissue massage can be effective in relieving osteoarthritis pain. It can also be used for fibromyalgia pain, improving the range of movement often immediately. Other amazing benefits of deep tissue massage are that it can lower blood pressure, stress hormone levels and the heart rate as well as being very good for the mind.

Inflammation and pain can restrict movement and circulation in muscle tissue and deep tissue massage works to realign the tissue, tendons, ligaments and fascia (which is a protective layer that surrounds bones, joints and muscles) as well as the muscles to release stress, tension and provide pain relief.

At certain points in a deep tissue massage treatment some discomfort may be experienced but that’s to be expected when the massage pressure is deep and often on painful areas. Always tell your massage therapist which areas are painful or if the soreness becomes too much. They can easily reduce the pressure or use some more massage oil to help the muscles relax.

You may experience some stiffness or tenderness after a deep tissue massage, but this shouldn’t last more than a day or two. Drinking water can help with muscle rehydration and to flush away toxins that have been released during your massage.
