In a 90-minute Yin Yoga class, specific postures held on meridians of the body, allow a gradual softening and release. Yin yoga is not about strength or intensity, Yin Yoga encourages the body/mind architecture. The body is the scaffold for the brain’s limbic system. Not many understand that joint mobility/juiciness affects the patterns of emotional stability of the brain. .
This Yin yoga class experience acknowledges our body hears through muscle, fasciae, tissue, organs. It is a whole and holistic way to nourish the body as we enter peak Vata season and might wish to keep ‘our bones juicy.
Exercises are like prose, whereas yoga is the poetry of movements.

A Class Built Around Stillness
Yin Yoga is slow by design. Postures are held for minutes rather than breaths, allowing you to move past the muscle and into the deeper connective tissue — the ligaments, joints and fascia that quietly hold your structure together. Where more active styles build heat, Yin invites release. You’re not pushing the body into shape; you’re letting it settle into one.
Held long enough, each posture becomes less a stretch and more a kind of listening. The hips soften. The spine lengthens along old, familiar lines. The mind, so often the last part of us to arrive anywhere, finally catches up with the body — and finds it’s already still.
Where Poetry Meets Practice. In this class words are woven gently through the silence. It’s yoga for people who love poetic, beautiful or uplifting language and for anyone who has ever wanted their practice to feel like a story rather than a workout.
The result is a class that works on two levels at once. Physically and mentally, the poetry offers something to hold onto — a thread of meaning that turns a stretch into a moment of genuine reflection and the scaffolding of the body builds to a clearer calmer mind.

Stillness is not empty — it is the architecture holding everything upright.

At YogaSpace Yorkshire we have a two gongs: a Paiste 32-inch Chiron Planetary gong -which is a Shamanic healing gong attending to areas in your body that have experienced current and past truama. We also have a 38-inch Earth Gong which is about harmony with all and whole body connectedness.
Chiron Planet, first discovered in 1977, orbits between Saturn and Uranus and is only approximately 180 Km in diameter. It has been classified as both a comet and a minor planet and has also been included in astrological charts. Its eclectic orbit and sometimes maverick behaviour aptly reflect its eccentric healing abilities.
The Chiron gong works on the throat chakra (5th) where we speak our words of truth, and the Third Eye (6th) where we act with our intuitive wisdom. The gong works through our deepest turmoil to find meaning and a way through every block. The Chiron gong says that the wounds you need healing from, contain a gift and that the healing journey is how you discover your gift. By embracing your darkness, you walk into the light.
The Earth gong is large, all-encompassing and the rich deep tones envelope you from head to toe as the energy waves of mother Earth hold you. It is a gong that can only be experienced, hard to describe.
THE GONG SPIRIT SONG
Gong will be played at the end of this class
The Gong is the spirit song.
It is the primal whisper of the soul.
Its sounds are the echo of the Original Word that created the world, the sound within all sounds.
Listen with outer and inner ears.
Feel its pulsations and let the millions of vibrations dance and flow through your senses.
You will become fearless, relaxed and awakened.
The ancients sought this experience on the tops of mountains and at the sacred places.
The voice of God would thunder in, spectacular strokes of lightning.
The clap of thunder – Bang! Shatter! Roll! Echo! – stopped all thought, stripped away pretence,
shook loose the deepest fears, and rejuvenated the nervous system.
It created strength, peace and healing.
The Gong is that sound. It is the flash of inner light.
The mallet is the will of the infinite, the gong, the creation, and the sound are the spirit song,
the heartbeat of the soul.
